Early detection is key to a better prognosis in dementia, yet the complexity of testing and the disease’s gradual progression often cause patients to miss the critical window for diagnosis.

In this interview, Professor Jung Eun Shin (Konkuk University / CEO of Voinosis) shares the future healthcare paradigm being shaped by voice-based AI screening technology and digital therapeutics (DTx).

Continuous disease monitoring powered by AI can break beyond the limits of time and place, offering a practical tool for addressing healthcare accessibility in a super-aged society.

Key Contents:

  • Voice biomarkers: By analyzing the combined activity of the vocal cords, tongue, lung muscles, and more during speech, the technology screened early cognitive impairment with 85–87% accuracy in clinical trials.
  • Variable control and consistency: Rather than surface-level changes such as language, dialect, or a cold, the technology analyzes each person’s inherent acoustic structure (how they produce speech), enabling consistent measurement.
  • Proactive monitoring: Using voice data accumulated in daily life, the system provides early warnings when patterns resemble those of dementia, shifting from one-time diagnosis to continuous monitoring.
  • Effects of digital therapeutics (DTx): In preclinical results for patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), using a game-based DTx for 15 minutes a day over 8 weeks improved cognitive function by an average of 10%.
  • Care in everyday life: At real living spaces such as the recently opened Care Hub in Hanam, AI-powered contactless sensors and sleep analysis help fill the recovery gap between the hospital and daily life.
